On Wednesday 17th May the Eat Your Words cookbook club returns to Birch for another one off dinner. This time we will be discussing – and cooking from – Dorothy Hartley’s Food In England. Food In England is a fascinating book, quite unlike modern cook books; it is packed with information, part cook book and part history book, but always written from the perspective of the cook and never too dry. It is the result of a huge amount of research across Britain by Hartley, who travelled around, mostly on her own, interviewing, sketching and eating. Much of what was recorded has been lost from our traditions and eating habits today, and we will be picking up some of these interesting tidbits to serve on the night.
The menu will comprise 5 courses, and be £35 per head, payable on booking.
Bookings are now open by phone or in person at the restaurant. Due to the nature of this event, we will not be able to cater for vegetarians, or other dietary requirements. We are unable to refund reservations if they are cancelled less than 72 hours before the event.
